National Day of Prayer About Abortion

Abortion prayer day posterI’m going to be facilitating a day of prayer on October 27th, the anniversary of the passing of the Abortion Act in the United Kingdom. The day is organised nationally by Image is a Christian charity (registered charity number 1088573) concerned about abortion, euthanasia, human embryo experimentation and human cloning. They are evangelical and non-denominational, believing that every person is made in the image of God, with a life of value from conception to death.

They have a confidential helpline, open seven days a week, which provides help and support during pregnancy, after abortion and in cases of miscarriage. They also train counsellors to work in these areas, and offer help in setting up pregnancy centres. They seek to encourage churches and individual Christians to become involved in life issues. They provide speakers for Christian and non-Christian groups and conferences. They are particularly concerned to see young people reached with sex education within a moral framework. They publish a range of leaflets on abortion and teenage sexuality. They encourage regular prayer for life issues, publish a bi-monthly prayer letter, and organise a National Day of Prayer about abortion on October 27 each year.

The exact time and venue hasn’t yet been decided so I have started a mailing list so that I can email you when I have further details. You can subscribe to this mailing list using the form at the top right hand of my other web site.

I believe this is an important issue for all Christians to be concerned and pray for so please keep in touch and I will let you know more details nearer the time. If this is a new issue or you can’t quite understand it please do add a comment to this post and I’ll try to reply.

Global Day of Prayer, London

Psalm Drummers gathering before the London Global Day of Paryer 2008On Sunday 11th May millions of Christians spanning 176 nations prayed for the needs of the world on Pentecost Sunday as part of one of the largest global prayer events to ever take place. On that day I was part of the Psalm Drummers team that took part in the London Global Day of Prayer. Around 20,000 people gathered to pray for London, the UK and the World on a very hot day in Millwall Football Club’s ground.

What really made the day special was that I looked at the people gathered together as part of the Psalm Drummers team and thought to myself “what an ordinary bunch of people”. Also that there were both young and old. No superstars here. I was so amazed at the grace of God in choosing a bunch of people to make a sound that was dynamic, raw and aggressive as an expression of worship.

The day was a little disappointing from a ‘performance’ point of view as we were supposed to be doing 2 pieces – 15 minutes at the start and 10 minutes towards the end, plus a piece with a gospel choir. But in the end we only did 6 minutes and 6 minutes later. But that’s the way it is with live events. Not everything goes smoothly and you get chopped! But there was a real sense that we were contributing to the surge of prayer and worship that was rising, so job done!!!

I’m always really keen to see how we look and sound as when you are playing you are locked in to a groove. If anyone has any video or audio footage from the day please let me know. I find it useful for seeing how things can be improved.
