What’s a Bodhran I hear you ask? A Bodhran is an Irish frame drum. I went to Belfast for the first time in about a year to wander around the shops with nothing particularly in mind.

Every time I go to Belfast I like to go on a crawl of all the music shops so I went to Marcus Music first. I used to have a Bodhran but gave it away to an American who really wnated to learn to play but didn’t know of anywhere in the States that sold one. (Ah, wasn’t that kind of me). The I happened to see this package – an 18 inch genuine Irish made Bodhran, a carrying case, beater and a DVD tutorial film for absolute beginners – all for £49.99. I’m not a beginner but I thought this would be a really good package as now all of my family can learn to play.

In their enthusiasm to (rightly) defend the truth and warn about counterfeits I see a lot of teaching in the Church, and Christian web sites, about the danger of Eastern Religions. By this is meant the likes of Buddhism, Hinduism etc. But think about this for a minute:

Christianity is an Eastern Religion.

As it says in the Psalms, ‘Selah’ (pause and think about that).

Christianity originated in the East – the Middle East – in Israel, not New York, London or Belfast. Let’s remember that ’salvation is of the Jews’ (John 4 v.22). Jesus was a Jew, not a white Westerner. At the roots of our faith is an Eastern Religion. Let’s remember to obey Scripture and ‘pray for the peace of Jerusalem’ (Psalm 122). Jesus is the Peace of Jerusalem and peace in Israel will only be found in Him.
