Video: Seals on Ballymartin Beach

I recently went to the beach in Ballymartin on a fresh but sunny October’s day. To get there is a short walk down a path from the road. As I walked down the tide was going out and the rocks were very visible. But then I noticed that the ‘rocks’ were moving and was amazed to see a group of about 70 seals hauled out on them.

New Environmental Blog

I have just created a new blog to accompany my niche environmental web directory called Eco Web Directory. You can read it at http://blog.ecowebdirectory.com/

Eco Web Directory is a directory of web sites and blogs in the United Kingdom and Ireland that are specifically related to environmental issues, such as sustainable development, recycling, renewable energy, ethical investment, etc. If you have a web site like this that you would like to promote why not have a look at the directory and submit your site for inclusion.

White-tailed Sea Eagle seen in Northern Ireland

Photo of an eagleIn the summer of 2007 a scheme between wildlife organisations in Norway and Ireland saw the re-introduction of White-tailed Sea Eagles to Ireland.

15 eaglets were reared in Norway and flown by plane to Ireland where they were released into Killarney National Park. These Eagles were prominent in Ireland but became extinct over the last 100 years or so due to trapping and shooting in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Now, a year later, they have been spotted in my neck of the woods at Clea Lake, County Down in the North of Ireland!
